Weddle Covered Bridge Repair

Description

Weddle Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge now located in Sankey Park, the largest public park in Sweet Home. The bridge spans Ames Creek, and is open for pedestrian use only, but must also support vehicles during large public events. The bridge is a 120-foot long single span bridge timber structure, comprised of a covered Howe truss with timber floor beams, timber stringers, and a timber deck. Weddle Bridge originally spanned Thomas Creek in Scio, but was replaced, deconstructed and rebuilt in its present location in 1990.An inspection of the bridge in 2023 identified many needed repairs, and forced the City to limit use of the structure to no more than 50 people at a time. The needed repair work, which is identified in the attached inspection report, includes replacement of many of the structural beams, stringers, trusses, and other hardware. The City is seeking experienced professionals to conduct the repairs identified in the report as being urgent, and restore the bridge to full usage as soon as possible.
