The overall project goal is to design and/or construct approximately three (3) to four (4) stormwater ponds in the Eleven Mile Creek Watershed Basin which covers approximately 22,000 acres in west central Escambia County. Environmental benefits include downstream flow rates reduction, wetlands improvement, coastal flood protection, protection of infrastructure, and water quality improvements. Project is anticipated to reduce approximately 80% of annual pollutant load contributions from the overall Eleven Mile Creek.Eleven Mile Creek is a 303(d) listed impaired waterbody. Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) exist for fecal coliform bacterial. Observational data shows evidence of low dissolved oxygen, excess nutrients, elevated biological oxygen demand, and unionized ammonia. Additional Stormwater treatment and attenuation achieved by constructing new or retrofitting existing stormwater ponds will improve coastal flood protection and water quality. This project will reduce downstream flow rates, expand and/or improve adjoining floodplains/wetlands, improve coastal flood protection, and improve overall water quality.
