The City of South San Francisco (City) invites qualified individuals, firms, or teams to submit proposals in response to this Request for Proposals (RFP). This RFP includes two parts: 1) updating the City’s Objective Design Standards and 2) creating Streetscape & Public Realm Standards. Recognizing that a user’s experience with the built environment and public realm go hand-in-hand, staff is taking this opportunity to consider the urban design of the building form and public realm together. Updating the City’s Objective Design StandardsThe City is requesting support from a consultant team to update its Objective Design Standards for single-family and multi-family & residential mixed-use development and to create City-wide Design Standards and Area-Specific Design Standards. In 2022, the City adopted Objective Design Standards to comply with recent State laws. Since then, City staff has applied the standards to new projects and has identified opportunities to revise and expand the standards. Therefore, the purpose of this effort is to improve the standards and provide additional detail and direction regarding urban design and architectural form. Updating the Objective Design Standards is the primary focus of this RFP.Creating Streetscape & Public Realm StandardsThe City is also interested in creating Streetscape & Public Realm Standards to provide clear and consistent standards for streetscape and public realm improvements as a part of new development. This work would build upon and complement Appendix A: Design Guidelines in the Active South City Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.
