The Piedmont Triad is a regional metropolitan area of central North Carolina anchored by the cities of Burlington, Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem. The Triad region is home to a rich history, thriving economy, interconnected transportation network, and prominent cultural and educational institutions. The Triad is currently on the brink of significant change. Capitalizing on recent economic development success and the quality of life offered in the Triad, there is an influx of people, jobs, and housing coming into the region. As the Piedmont Triad continues to grow and attract new residents, it is essential to collectively plan for a future of transportation demand management that reduces reliance on single-occupancy vehicle travel and mitigates the negative impacts of growth on our environment and transportation network. Regional transportation planning began in the Triad with the creation of the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) in 1997. Today, PART administers a regional Transportation Demand Management (TDM) initiative in coordination with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the four Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) in the region. The regional TDM initiative focuses on expanding mobility choices and reducing vehicle miles traveled through promotion and growth of the state’s largest vanpool program, highlighting multimodal access and connections, and community and institutional advocacy. The Triad is collectively planning to take the next step in regional planning and coordination through the development of a regional TDM Plan. For this RFP, the geographical scope of the regional transit demand management plan includes the four cities, four MPO’s, and nine member counties of the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation. Cities: Burlington, Greensboro, High Point, & Winston-Salem MPOs: Burlington Graham MPO, Greensboro MPO, High Point MPO, Winston-Salem Forsyth MPO Counties: Alamance, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, & Yadkin
