The City of Rancho Cordova is soliciting proposals from qualified firms to prepare and develop an Active Transportation Plan (ATP) that would update and merge the City’s existing Bicycle Master Plan (2016) and the Pedestrian Master Plan (2011).The Active Transportation Plan will combine the City of Rancho Cordova’s Pedestrian Master Plan and the Bicycle Master Plan into one planning document, allowing the City to boldly address active transportation needs that will lead to a shift in travel behaviors through focus on bikeways for all ages and abilities, more equitable engagement, best practices, and new quick build tools all within one document.The development of this would allow the City to: • Move closer to meeting its Climate Action and Adaptation Plan goals; • Plan projects that will encourage people on bikes and foot because they are built to a high standard for all ages and abilities• Move closer to meeting the modal hierarchy identified in the General Plan of prioritizing walking, followed by bicycling and transit; • Address connections that catalyze housing development with access to transit and transit-oriented development; and • Address equity in process and outcomes. Collaboration will be critical throughout this project. The City team is beginning efforts to update the General Plan which is expected to last the duration of the ATP. Coordination with that effort will be facilitated by the city’s project manager, but knowledge of general plan updates and critical decision points is a asset the city seeks in the selection process. Additionally, community collaboration will be a key part of this planning process.
