Qualified K-9 Selection ProcessThe County of San Mateo Sheriff's Department will evaluate potential K-9's on a range of specific criteria, focusing on health, temperament, compatibility and other general factors essential for Bomb Squad and Narcotics work. The specific tests ensure the dog can handle stressful environments and perform necessary tasks effectively. Upon selection, the vendor shall include a guarantee period to replace the K-9 for any provision related to health, genetic, training or compatibility concerns. The K-9 will be required to pass a basic pre-selection process which may include hunt test, drive test, obstacle/agility evaluation, environmental evaluation, bite work evaluation (if applicable), and sociability to perform the tasks in front of a member of the K-9 unit.Qualified K-9 RequirementsThe Contractor shall be responsible for offering a selection of available single or dual purpose healthy K-9 that will meet the following specifications from the date of purchase:K-9 shall be bred for law enforcement work. K-9 shall have a general good bill of health record showing evidence of good physical condition, free of any illness, including genetic, hereditary, or skeletal abnormalities. K-9 shall be unaltered. Contractor shall show evidence of testing and training record if K-9 is documented as certified. K-9 Guarantee/Replacement PeriodThe Contractor shall, at its sole expense, provide a replacement guarantee for any K-9 returned due to concerns or issues identified after purchase. Upon return, the K-9 may be exchanged for a replacement of comparable suitability, if available.
