A visual structural condition assessment of the City of Pasadena Fire Station #39, located at 50 Avenue 64, Pasadena, CA 91105, has been performed. In general, the building appears to be in good structural condition, except for localized damage observed in some areas of the exterior brick masonry walls, in which cracking and/or delamination of the outer wythe of bricks from the grouted collar joint was detected. These defects are identified in attached drawings. Potential causes for this delamination include: (a) the absence of tie wires at the end of walls; (b) spalling of the grout and bricks due to rusting of the reinforcement in the collar joint caused by water infiltration. Repair methods for both the cracking and the delamination are summarized in attached drawings.
