Intent to Sole Source Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College April 15, 2024 In accordance with Section 11-35-1560(a) of the SC Consolidated Procurement Code, and Section 19-445.2015 of the SC Code of State Regulations, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College intends to enter into a sole source contract for: Zeiss DuraMax Coordinate Measuring Machine Description of the Agency need that this procurement meets: Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is in the process of upgrading the entire Machine Tool Technology classroom and lab space. The program will be moving to a larger building with the plans to expand the capabilities of hands-on training. A variety of new machinery brands are planned for the new labs. OCtech intends to purchase a Zeiss Duramax CMM from Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology, LLC. These machines will be an addition to and compatible with other Zeiss equipment already in place. Both machines use the same Calypso software package that designed for academic programs and is already incorporated in the Machine Tool training curriculum. This addition will enable instructors to give hands-on lessons to multiple students using the same lesson on several machines. These are an addition to the training curriculum and will work together to simulate real-time experiences for the students. Description of market research Agency performed to determine the availability of products or services that would meet the Agency’s needs. The requested machine will provide additional training for our students. Furthermore, this Zeiss machine is also utilized in local industries – Zeus, Sundaram Clayton, and Delta Airlines, which have all made agreements to hire students from the Machine Tool Program. It is imperative to train the students on equipment that they will using in the workplace. When the upgrade is complete, the Machine Tool Program also hopes to attract an opportunity to provide additional services to local industry by offering classes for employee training. This would further enhance the need to have the same machines used in local businesses. The requested machine is only sold by Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology.
