Intent to Sole Source Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College April 15, 2024 In accordance with Section 11-35-1560(a) of the SC Consolidated Procurement Code, and Section 19-445.2015 of the SC Code of State Regulations, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College intends to enter into a sole source contract for: AgieCharmilles Cut E 350 Jobshop Wire EDM Description of the Agency need that this procurement meets: Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College is currently in the process of upgrading the machine tool technology program to a modern industry standard with a focus on replicating industry 4.0 methodologies with basic mechatronics automation. The program will be moving to a larger building with the plans to expand the capabilities of hands-on training. A variety of new machinery brands are planned for the new labs. OCtech intends to purchase an AgieCharmilles Cut E 350 Jobshop Wire EDM machine from GF Machining Solutions. The AgieCharmilles Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) are critical pieces of equipment in our local manufacturing area. Six of our local manufacturing partners are utilizing 36 AgieCharmilles EDM machines so we have not only the OEM maintenance support but six industry partnerships to contact if need be. Description of market research Agency performed to determine the availability of products or services that would meet the Agency’s needs. AgieCharmilles EDM equipment has been the local Industries top choice of EDM machines. Our local Industry has been using AgieCharmilles equipment for over 20 years. OCtech currently does not offer EDM technology training since no equipment is present. Our local partnerships have a need for us to teach this topic and prepare students with the skills to become successful. These industries include: Zeus, Phoenix Specialties, Husqvarna Orangeburg, Precision, Bosch, and Parker Hannifin Description of supplies, construction, information technology, and/or service Vendor will provide under the contract: AgieCharmilles Cut E 350 Jobshop Wire EDM Detailed explanation why no other vendor’s supplies, construction, information technology, and/or services will meet the needs of the Agency: The College has found that GF Machining Solutions is the sole manufacture and supplier of the AgieCharmilles brand of EDM machines. RayTech Machine Tools Inc. is the sales and service partner for GF Machining Solutions in this territory, and will deliver and install the machine.
