Mississippi has been longed plagued with higher-than-average infant mortality rates in comparison to other similar states. Eligible organizations are invited to submit a proposal in response to this initiative entitled Mississippi Infant Mortality Reduction Program. To submit a proposal, each applicant must comply with the instructions included in this Request for Application (RFA). By submitting a proposal, the applicant also agrees to the terms and conditions outlined in this RFA.Grant funds for this opportunity should be used to implement data-driven strategies/decisions and policy and/or environmental changes that seek to improve infant health outcomes within local communities. These may be accomplished through various means including reducing preterm births, sleep-related infant deaths, congenital malformations, and addressing social and environmental determinants of health. Grantee activities will include addressing the leading cause or causes of infant mortality in local communities; identifying or selecting strategies based on community input; focusing on policy, systems, and environmental changes that support infant health; and addressing the social drivers of poor infant health outcomes in communities that experience significant overall health and disparities.This grant opportunity is being administered by the Maternal and Infant Health Bureau (MIHB) at the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH). The MIHB provides statewide leadership and public health information essential for promoting, improving, and/or maintaining the health and well-being of pregnant/postpartum women and infants throughout Mississippi.
