Improving Safety and Efficiency through Connected Vehicles and Intersection Technologies in Anaheim SMART Project

In 2024, the City of Anaheim was awarded a SMART Grant project to test and implement various Connected Vehicles (CV) and Connected Intersection (CI) technologies in the City. The project is intended to implement a small scale deployment of emerging off-the-shelf Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and CV devices to test and validate interoperability and effectiveness of reducing right-angle collisions (e.g. red-ight violation warning [RLVW] systems) while improving mobility for vehicles and transit users (e.g. and transit signal priority [TSP] technologies).A key objective of the project is to build on the lessons learned and capabilities of the NTCIP Test Software developed by the FHWA/City of Anaheim to test NTCIO 1202 and 1218 standards. Lessons to be learned on this project is to determine compliance and thus interoperability of commercially off-the-shelf (COTS) ITS and CV devices to various national standards including, but not limited to, the aforementioned standards.All consultant agreements shall be written and issued by the City of Anaheim. Any revision to the standard City agreement format shall be subject to approval by the City Attorney and the City's Risk Manager.
