RFQ | HAZZARD GYMNASIUM RENOVATION PROJECT PHASE II Request for Qualifications – Architects HAZZARD GYMNASIUM RENOVATION PROJECT PHASE II The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, in accordance with policies of the Board of Trustees, is soliciting responses from qualified architects for the Hazzard Gymnasium Project. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The University seeks to begin a multiphase construction project for the Hazzard Gymnasium Building. The restoration will be done across several phases, as the work will be extensive. The gymnasium is located on the main campus of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The Hazzard Gymnasium, an 84,404 square foot facility, was completed in the early 1950s and served as the home of the Golden Lion basketball team until 1984. As the largest seated gathering space on the campus at one time, the Hazzard served as more than a basketball gym. It has served as a concert hall, an auditorium, a workout facility, an athletic equipment storage site, and a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) training site. The Hazzard currently serves as the training site of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. It is also home of the Lady Lion Soccer Team/locker room and it is an integral part of the educational and athletic programs of the university. PROJECT SCOPE UAPB Hazzard Gymnasium Renovation Phase II project encompasses a comprehensive range of improvements, from ensuring compliance with building codes and life safety standards to enhancing accessibility, functionality, and aesthetics. The proposed renovations will provide a modern, comfortable, and inclusive environment for users, meeting the evolving needs of the UAPB Hazzard Gymnasium. The proposed renovations will allow cadets, commanders, officers, stakeholders, and various constituents to experience a wholesome, holistic environment to engage in educational, training, and wellness activities. Phase II of the project which includes renovations and upgrades to offices, classrooms, bathrooms, HVAC systems, and ensuring everything is within ADA compliance. Phase 3 will begin mid-2026. The total project cost is currently estimated at $7 million and would be implemented over multiple phases. Phase 2 totals $2 million. Architects will work with Facilities Management and the building manager to implement the project.
