Project OverviewThe J.R. Kelly Generating Station is located at 515 SE 5th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32601. Kelly utilizes a four (4) cell, mechanical draft, crossflow cooling tower to support power generation at the Plant. The cooling tower is a 600 Series Model originally constructed by SPX Marley and the primary structure was converted from wood to FRP (“fiberglass reinforced plastic”) in 2008. The purpose of this project is to replace drift eliminators in a portion of the cooling tower. While the cooling tower remains largely in good condition, the drift eliminators were installed incorrectly in multiple cells, and this has led to excessive drift. The objective is to resolve the drift issues by properly installing new drift eliminators. This work is scheduled to take place during a Plant outage in January of 2024.
