Garland Ranch Regional Park - Ranger Station ADA Improvements and Plan

Description

The Ranger Station, formerly known as the “Cooper Ranch House”, was built in the 1920s and purchased by MPRPD in 1989. The Ranger Station is no longer in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) based on the recent removal of the wheelchair ramp due to safety concerns. The wheelchair ramp served as the primary barrier-free access to the building. The building is a single-story split-level of approximately 2,000 sf and functions as the Garland Ranch Regional Park - Ranger Headquarters and as an event location for specific programs sponsored by the District’s Let’s Go Outdoors (LGO) catalog. The meeting room is not offered for rent or for general public use. The District desires to address the accessibility to the building utilizing a two phased approach - first to have an initial assessment and recommendations regarding the rebuilding of the wheelchair ramp, cost estimate, and construction of an accessible ramp based on the assessment recommendation. Second, to provide a thorough evaluation, recommendations, and cost estimate addressing the accessibility of the entire Ranger Station.
