The southern section of the Mount Vernon floodwall is exposed Z-type sheet pile. Original installation did not include sealing the joints in the sheet pile and during high flood events it has been found that these joints leak significantly. The goal of the project is to weld the joints sufficiently to prevent the bulk of the leaking. Each pile joint will be welded four feet above grade and two feet below grade (which will require a nominal 2-1/2 foot depth trench of sufficient width to perform below grade welding). There is approximately 1,600 feet of weld.
