The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, followed by the introduction of solid foods and continued breastfeeding until two years or more as mutually desired by mom and baby[1]. The Healthy People 2030 goals include increasing the proportion of infants that are exclusively breastfed through 6 months old to 42.4%, and increase the proportion of infants that are breastfed through at least one year to 54.1%[2].Although many mothers may wish to breastfeed, a different reality may exist immediately following delivery and in the year after birth. Moreover, racial and economic disparities in breastfeeding rates exist, potentially impacting the health and well-being of some of the most vulnerable communities. The intent of this non-competitive RFA, which is limited to Sacramento County WIC and Community Resource Project WIC, is to support an innovative and effective program that will: support mothers with the initiation and continuation of exclusive breastfeeding through at least six months, and preferably one year after birth; and work to reduce racial disparities in breastfeeding rates.[1] Policy Statement: Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk | Pediatrics | American Academy of Pediatrics (aap.org)[2] Facts | Breastfeeding | CDC
