On July 21, 2026 a localized washout of Poverty Hollow Road occurred during a heavy rainfall event, resulting in a section of the edge/underside of the roadway washing down a vertical slope. The washout location is south of Bridge 05322, which is located just south of the intersection of Poverty Hollow Road with Meeker Hill and Goodridge Roads. At the bridge, the Aspetuck River crosses beneath the road and drops into a gorge. As a result of the damage to the roadway, the Town has reduced traffic
