In general, the project will improve the sidewalk, driveways, curb ramps, traffic and pedestrian signals, and associated ADA improvements along the east and west sides of Prairie Avenue between Northern Avenue and Pueblo Boulevard. The project will include the removal and replacement of sub-par sidewalk with new 6’ wide concrete sidewalk, and the construction of new 6’ wide concrete sidewalk where missing. In order to maintain an ADA accessible path, many of the driveways from the adjoining businesses and residential properties will need to be rebuilt or renovated. In addition, the project includes construction of multiple handicap ramps at the intersections along Prairie Avenue. In several places along the Prairie Avenue corridor, the overhead electric power poles are located within the corner ADA ramp area, and will be relocated. The traffic signal at Jones Avenue and the mid-block pedestrian signal crossing between Crawford Street and Sitter Place will both be moved and replaced. The mid-block pedestrian crossing near Oneal Avenue will move to the intersection and become a fully signalized intersection. Roadway surface drainage improvements lessen the side slopes of an existing double gutter pan crossing at Prairie Avenue and Jones Avenue. New transit shelters will be provided as part of the project to meet the ADA Standard Requirements.
