Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Update

Description

The purpose of this project is to update the Washington County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (WashCo CWPP).  The WashCo CWPP was developed and promulgated in 2007 to meet the intent of the federal Healthy Forests Restoration Act (HFRA).  That plan described the county’s relevant characteristics (e.g., demographics, socioeconomics, natural resources, etc.), identified wildfire hazards, included wildfire hazard and capability assessments, defined and described ten strategic planning areas, and documented current and proposed wildfire mitigation activities.Development of the 2024 WashCo CWPP update will not be just a simple update of the prior plan.  Although the update will address many of the same components included in the 2007 plan, it will also include an assessment of the current plan structure; address climate change, wildfire smoke, and social vulnerability; incorporate data and maps from recent state, regional, and local wildfire assessments, plans, reports, and guides; and involve more stakeholders than participated in the 2007 planning process.
