The City of Santa Monica’s Department of Transportation, Big Blue Bus (BBB) Division, is requesting proposals from experienced and qualified firms to conduct a Bus Stop Amenities Study. The Study will take an inventory of all existing BBB bus stops and assess them for compliance with the agency’s own standards for bus stop amenities and other requirements. The successful proposer will then examine the data, and suggest ways for Big Blue Bus to prioritize improvements, and make suggestions as to how Big Blue Bus could develop a plan to bring stops up to compliance (if deficiencies are identified) and/or improve them with regard to amenities. BBB has approximately 932 bus stops in a 69 square mile service area. Route changes, detours, construction, or streetscape changes sometimes require that bus stops be temporarily or permanently closed, moved, added, or consolidated. For that reason, the number of active bus stops can fluctuate, but typically remains between 925 and 945. About 65 percent of stops are in the City of Los Angeles, 31 percent are in Santa Monica, and the remaining 4 percent are in either Unincorporated Los Angeles County, Culver City or Inglewood. The term of the agreement is two (2) years.
