The purpose of this project is to provide hardening improvements to three buildings: the General Maintenance Department (GMD) Operations Center, the South Cross Bayou Advanced Water Reclamation Facility (SCBAWRF) Public Education Center (PEC), and SCBAWRF Dewatering Building, which are currently rated to withstand a Category 2 hurricane. Work includes selective demolition of exterior windows, exterior doors, and exterior louvers as well as installation of exterior windows, exterior doors and frames, and exterior louvers for increased wind resistance. SCBAWRF PEC and GMD Operations Center also include selective demolition of existing roofing with installations of new roofing. The hardening updates will be constructed to withstand wind speeds up to a Category 4 storm. The construction of this project is partially funded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Resilient Florida Grant No, 22FRP10; therefore, substantial completion has a deadline of June 30, 2026.Project benefits include, but are not limited to the ability to safely house staff for continuous facility operation and rapid response during emergency operations. The County must also be able to deploy maintenance equipment and keep wastewater treatment services functional during a Category 4 or lower storm.
