San Mateo County is seeking a qualified provider to conduct a comprehensive performance audit of Animal Care, Control, and Shelter services. San Mateo County Health oversees the countywide Animal Care, Control and Shelter operations. The County of San Mateo provides animal control services to residents of both the unincorporated areas and the 20 incorporated cities within San Mateo County. Currently, the County contracts with the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA), a private non-profit organization, to enforce all animal control laws, shelter homeless animals, and provide a broad range of related services. PHS/SPCA currently provides, among other things, the following services: Animal rescueRespond to sick or injured animalsPick up of stray or confined domestic animalsRespond to animals loose in trafficRemoval of deceased animals from public property, such as streets or sidewalks. PHS/SPCA does not respond to deceased animals on freeways/highways.
