A transportation system’s primary purpose is to facilitate access to resources like housing, jobs, shopping, social opportunities, etc. Therefore, SACOG is increasingly using accessibility, defined as the ability to access some destination type by some mode within some travel time budget, as a performance indicator in a variety of contexts. Examples of specific accessibility metrics include number of jobs accessible by public transit, grocery stores accessible by walking, schools accessible by biking, etc.We seek a tool that will, among other applications, help us:Evaluate transportation projects by estimating how much they increase access to different resources (jobs, shopping, schools, etc.) by various transportation modes (driving, biking, walking, transit), and for which populations (e.g., environmental justice communities).Learn which areas of the region have greater or lesser accessibility to resources by non-driving travel modes.Measure how accessibility to these resources by various travel modes changes over time, and for which populations.
